TEXTBOOK and iClicker:  Text: Madigan et al., Brock: Biology of Microorganisms, 13th Edition. Pearson Publishing.  FIU Bookstore sells the Loose Leaf edition (Suggested Retail price $134.27)   From the publisher you can get the e-book ($82.99) to your computer; check with Pearson.com for the details).  You can get a good price on a used book on half.com or ebay or other Web booksellers.  In Fall 2014, the published expects to come out with the 14th Edition.

CLASS LECTURES:  The lectures will include the use of i-Clickers in problem solving and lecture quiz questions (these are signfiicant, see grading below).

PLEASE use the Textbook's End of Chapter Problems and Review Questions for practice exams (multiple choice and written) for each chapter.  And, MOST IMPORTANTLY test your knowledge out with the book closed well before the Classes and  Exams.  Exams will be equal parts multiple choice and written answer questions.

GRADING:  1.  Exams:  5 Exams, 100 points each  = 500 points.
                     2.  iClicker  answers in Class =               100 points.
Total Possible Points = 600 points.

PEER LEAD TEAM LEARNING:  PLTL will be available for this class.  PLTL is an enhanced was to learn just about any subject and has an intrinsic value in that. PLTL is graded and if you elect to participate in PLTL, your PLTL grade will be adjusted to at maximum add 30 points to your score (5% of total points possible increase).

MISSED CLASSES or EXAMS:  missed classes or exams requuire a doctors note or other offical note explaining why you could not attend the class or exam.  Make up exams will be given for valid written excuses.  Make up classes (iClicker) will be done for valid written excuses in OE 246.
