My sister Josie and her husband
Jack have made some of the most beautiful quilts I have seen, for their
many grandchildren, mostly. They photograph them in natural
light, sometimes on snow. Josie recently made a small quilt
bigger for a grandson that grew up.

Our sister Nancy made this beautiful bird of paradise quilt
out of her
own imagination!

Growing up in Detroit, my friend Jackie's mother made the
most beautiful quilts, and would stretch them for quilting on a big
frame in their basement. I vividly remember an appliqued tulip
quilt that she had stretched on the frame sometime during high school. This
picture is not of hers, alas, but reminds me of a section of that huge
quilt I remember.

Mary Ann has made a number of quilts in different styles - my
favorite recent one is a beautiful Hawaiian reverse applique style. This
picture I found on the web is a lot like her quilt that is still not
completed, like so many of my own projects.

I was enthralled when I saw the quilt that Nancy Deyrup was
making
out of her husband Mark's old t-shirts, many of which had been
embroidered by (her) hand in earlier days. She had a number of
different-sized templates, to make quadrilaterals of different
sizes. I hope to make one of those myself some day...
Nancy Deyrup, along with Ann Weekley, were the instigators of
Craft
Night at the Archbold Biological Station. In this photo, Nancy
hold the quilt she made for her young grandson over the rail of the lab
building for maximum extension.

Heather told me about this 'crazy quilt' that she made at her
parents' house one Christmas, taking a break from her grad student
life. It doesn't look too crazy but very beautiful, thanks to
this photo taken by her dad.
