Quilt Artists I Love!

(they have beautiful web sites)

Maya Schoenenberger

Maya's work looks like paintings from a distance, but up close you can see the different fabrics, other materials, and stitches that let you know this is really quilting at a very creative level.

Maya has been a guest artist in my Nature Teaching class, sharing with the students her techniques and inspirations, and then also creating art with all of us.  We made some wonderful variations on the theme of "leaf" in 2008.

Stacy West

I so loved Stacy's quilts, many of them portraits, that I commissioned her to make a quilt of my cats Vera and Luba.  Now that they are no longer around, I love seeing this quilt, it makes me feel like they are looking out for me and the rest of the family.  Her portrait quilts include many famous people, and her family too (including Buddy the beagle).

Stacy gets a lot of inspiration from nature, and has many gorgeous animal, plant, and environment quilts.  On her web site she has some informational pictures about how she turns a photo into a painting and then into a quilt, using the Vera and Luba quilt as an example.
