1995- Freedom Tower

"Freedom Tower" is Michael Orta's debut album on the Contemporary/Fantasy label. The music swings between the two poles of Orta's musical world. Both the jazz traditions and his latin influences are represented here in this his first album as a leader. There are five Orta originals. Other tunes include a solo piano version of "Tres Palabras" and three tunes from the pens of Ron Miller and Gary Campbell(tenor saxophone), who also joins Michael on two tracks.
Other musicians that join Michael on this album are Paquito D'Rivera on alto saxophone and clarinet, his brother Nicky Orta on bass, and a number of fine musicians. Mike will soon be appearing with his own group around the country and is also slated to appear as a guest artist with the Rene Toledo group on his upcoming tour. We will keep you posted!
