Description: An introduction to complex variables, beginning with the algebra and geometry of the complex number system. Topics include: complex functions; analytic functions; Cauchy's theorem and its consequences; Taylor and Laurent series; residue calculus; evaluation of real integrals and summation of series; conformal mapping.

Prerequisite: MAC 2313 (Calculus III) and MAP 2302 (Differential Equations) or MAA 4211 (Advanced Calculus).

  • There will be two (2) midterms, worth 100 points each. The dates are 09/30 and 11/18.
  • Final: A mandatory comprehensive, final exam will carry 150 points. The date and time are H Dec 16, 2004: 1530-1815.
  • Quizzes: Two (2) quizzes; Dates (may be changed as needed): 09/23 and 11/04. Each is worth 25 points.
