Description: An introduction to differential equations and their applications based upon knowledge of calculus.
Topics to include:
Initial value problems of the first order, numerical solutions, systems of differential equations, linear differential equations, Laplace transforms, series solutions.
Prerequisite: MAC 2312
Text: Introduction to Ordinary Differ. Equations, 4 th edition, by Ross. (Willey).

Material to be covered:

  • Chapter 1-6, 8.3, 9
  • Tests and quizzes policy:

  • There will be two (2) midterms, worth 100 points each. The dates are 02/15 and 04/05.
  • There are no make-up midterms. A missed midterm exam can be waived upon presentation of a valid, verifiable proof of emergency situation at time of scheduled examination.
  • Final: A mandatory comprehensive, final exam will carry 120 points. The date and time are Friday, 04/26/2013. 0945-1145 GC 277
  • A score of 0 will be assigned for a missed final examination. However, with a valid, verifiable proof of emergency situation at the time of scheduled final examination, an individual student may have his final examination rescheduled for the following semester's week of finals. If rescheduling is granted, then an incomplete grade will be assigned to the student.
  • Quizzes: Four, 20-minute quizzes; Dates: 01/18, 02/01, 03/01, and 03/22. Each is worth 20 points.
  • A score of 0 will be assigned for a missed quiz. Absolutely no make-ups and no waivers will be granted for quizzes. This is our way of enforcing an acceptable class attendance.

    Grades: Grades will be assigned on the basis of 400 points.
