Madison was awarded a MHIRT internship through the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.This program select a few students and sends them abroad to different developing countries to learn the culture and help conduct medical research. Madison examined HSV-2, Herpes Simplex Virus type 2, and the correlation that has with coinfection of HIV.

NIH GHES Pre Dissertation Fellow

Claire was awarded an NIH Global Health Equity Scholar Predoctoral Fellowship to examine Indian formal support provider's perceptions and experiences working with survivors of sex trafficking. The goal of this project is to provide recommendations for addressing sex trafficking. Due to Covid- 19, she primarily worked with PHRII remotely.

Ruhika Prasad
Emory University

Ruhika engaged in qualitative maternal child health focused research while at PHRII for her undergraduate project. An anthropology student, her honors thesis based upon this work was titled "Mental Illness and Pregnancy among Women in Mysore, India: Health Provider and Women's Perspectives".

Kim Yen Nguyen
University of Hawai’i at Manoa

Kim was awarded a MHIRT internship through the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Kim's interests in maternal child health and global health broadly brought her to PHRII. She spent her time learning about adverse birth outcomes among rural Mysore pregnant women.

Hector Peguero
U.S. State Department Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship

A member of the 2017 GHSA Cohort, Hector received a post-baccalaureate Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship from the U.S. State Department and Indian Department of State. His project was titled "“Even an HIV infected person can live 100 years” Perceptions of HIV among Hijras in Mysore, India".

University of California- Berkeley

Milani was awarded a MHIRT internship through the University of California- Berkeley. Milani's interests in maternal child health and global health broadly brought her to PHRII. She spent her time working on the HIV and maternal transmission risk project.
