A native of Buffalo, New York and long-time resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Dolata coordinates the Music History area and is former Director of the FIU Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music &amp; Performing Arts<\/span>.<span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> As a lutenist, he has appeared at such venues as the Glimmerglass Opera, the Florida Grand Opera, the Northwest Bach Festival, the Miami Bach Society, the New World Symphony, and on broadcasts and recordings for NPR, CBS, and BBC.&nbsp;With Il Furioso, which he co-directs with Victor Coelho, he has recorded Kapsberger&#8217;s <em>1623 Book of Arias<\/em>,<em>&nbsp;Battaglia d&#8217;amore: the Music of Bellerofonte Castaldi,&nbsp;<\/em>and <em>George Frideric Handel: the &#8216;Amen, Alleluia&#8217; Arias&nbsp;<\/em>on the English label Toccata Classics. He also appears on several other American and European recordings.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"style14\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">His research on 17<sup>th<\/sup> and 18<sup>th<\/sup>-century lute music has been published in <em>Recent Researches in the Music of the Baroque Era<\/em>, <em>Early Music,<\/em> <em>Acta Musicologica<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Grove Music Online, <\/em>and<em> <em>BACH: Journal of the Riemenschneider Bach Institute<\/em>. <\/em>He has been a visiting professor at the Centre d&#8217;Etudes Sup\u00e9rieures de la Renaissance (CESR) at the Universit\u00e9 Fran\u00e7ois-Rabelais de Tours \u2013 CNRS where he continues to&nbsp;serve as a research associate and co-editor and author of the <em>TABLATURE 1300\u20131750<\/em>. <\/span><em><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">An Encyclop<\/span>edia<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"> (Brepols, 2025) with John Griffiths and Philippe Vendrix. David Dolata also maintains a long-standing affiliation with Boston University&#8217;s Historical Performance Program.
