Method of Evaluation: Your final grade in the course is based on:

  1. Homework/Projects: 150 points. These will be announced in class and on the course website. Late homework may be accepted, but with deductions.
  2. Two Midterm exam: 100 points each – Tuesday Sep. 27, Thursday Oct. 27;
  3. FINAL EXAM: 150 points – Tuesday, December 6, 19:15-21:15 regular room.

Grade-scale: The following percentages will guarantee the associated grade:

             > 90  : A    80-85 : B     65-75 : C      < 50 : F

             88-90 : A-   78-80 : B-    55-65 : D

             85-88 : B+   75-78 : C+    50-55 : D-

NO MAKEUP EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN. If you have a documented medical or professional excuse for missing the midterm, that percentage of your grade may be made up on the final.

Expectation: Ideally, you should already know the material taught in the undergraduate Linear Algebra. In any case, we will review most of it (at a fast pace though). You must have a reasonable maturity in conceiving and writing mathematical proofs.

Attendance: I don’t take attendance, but I hope you will find it useful to be in class. Try to arrive and leave on time. No cell-phone/beeper during class time, please. If you miss a lecture, get notes from a classmate.

Drop deadline: Monday, October 31.

Tentative schedule: We will cover most sections from Chapters 1-7 + topics from this chapter on Hadamard matrices:
