Pre-requisite:
Grade C or better in a pre-calculus or trigonometry course.
Method of Evaluation: Your final grade in the course is based on:

Top 5 scores
out of 7 quizzes for a total of 100 points.
2.
Three
in-class exams (100 points each):

1 Thursday, Sept. 22;
Exam 2
Tuesday,
Oct. 25;
Exam 3 Tuesday, Nov. 29.
3.
FINAL EXAM (200 points) - comprehensive exam Tue. Dec. 6,
17:00-19:00.
Grade-scale: The following percentages will guarantee the
associated grade:
> 90 : A
80-85 : B 65-75 : C < 50 : F
88-90 :
A- 78-80 : B- 55-65 : D
85-88 :
B+ 75-78 : C+ 50-55 : D-
NO MAKEUP EXAMS WILL BE
GIVEN. If you have a documented
medical or professional excuse for missing an exam, that percentage of your
grade may be made up on the final.
Attendance:
Optional, but I hope you will find it useful to be in class.
Calculator:
You may use one for your homework, but generally wont need one,
and you will not be allowed one (of any
kind) during exams.
Drop
deadline: Monday,
October 31. Remember, if stop attending classes and don't wish to get an F, you
must drop by this date.
Topics to be covered: Most sections from Chapters 1-4, plus part of 5.2,
5.3, 10.1. Chapter 0 will only be reviewed very fast. Suggested homework
assignments will be given at the end of each class and will be recorded on the
website. You have to check the web page often for updates. You are expected to
spend a minimum of 10 hours a week outside of class on homework and reading the
corresponding sections of the text.
