Chapter 4-A Supplementary Exercises

  1. Suppose the probability of a student passing this course for the first time is .90. Three students who have taken this course are selected at random.
  2. A realtor has five homes to show a potential buyer. Unknown to the realtor, the customer would be willing to purchase any one of three of the homes, but would not be interested in the other two. The realtor will randomly select homes to show the buyer until a sale is made.
  3. A game is played with three cards (two RED and one BLUE). Rules:
    - Randomly select a card from the three.
    - If the first card is
    - BLUE - lose $9 and STOP
    - RED - win $9 and draw again from remaining two cards.
    - If the second card is
    - BLUE - lose $9 and STOP
    - RED - win $9 and STOP
