*During exams all phones must be turned off and put away. If a student’s phone rings, beeps, vibrates, etc. during an exam, I reserve the right to collect the student’s exam immediately.

**Any student who does not take an exam at the scheduled time without PRIOR CONSENT of the instructor will receive a grade of ZERO on that exam.  If you feel you have a LEGITIMATE excuse for missing an exam, you must contact me via e-mail or leave a message on my voicemail PRIOR to the exam.

Early Alerts:  In an effort to help you succeed in your academic courses, FIU utilizes an Early Alert system.  Instructors are now able to notify students’ academic advisors if there are concerns about class performance.  In an alert is submitted*, your academic advisor will send you a message via your Student Dashboard (accessed via your MYFIU page) to discuss ways to improve your performance.  Please respond to any communication you receive from your academic advisor about an early alert.  Our goal with this program is to help you be successful by identifying any issues as early on as possible and working to address them.  *I will submit an alert for students who score below 60% on Exam I and/or Exam II.

Homework: Homework problems are assigned from the text.  Although solutions to these problems will not be collected, it is strongly recommended that you work at least the problems assigned in order to assist you in understanding the content of the course.  If you have difficulties with these problems, you should work additional problems involving the same content.  **Do not work the problems with the sole objective of obtaining the correct numerical answer.  Rather, work the problems in order to understand the conclusions in the context of the individual problem.  This will help you to see the meaning and relevance of the procedures we will discuss.

Attendance: Attendance is not required but certainly advised.  Students are responsible for everything covered during the class period, including material discussed as well as any handouts, notification of changes in exam dates, homework assignments and any other announcements.

Problems: I encourage you to contact me as soon as any problems arise that may affect your performance in the course, whether they are academic or personal.  Do not wait until the end of the semester to discuss problems that arose weeks prior.  I am committed to do everything I can to help you do your best in the course, however, remember the responsibility is yours.
