Folks,
Grades are now posted. Have a good, safe holiday, and study harder next
term. At least include that in your New Year's resolutions.

Folks,
The results from the second test are now online. Please do not e-mail me
to ask for your test score. Come to class on Monday or Tuesday, when I
shall return the tests. At that point in time I shall discuss
possibilities and probabilities. No make-ups will be given. If you
missed the test, you would be well advised to contact me asap unless you
intend to drop the course. Thursday is that deadline.
There are additional alterations to the end of the term. Here, in part,
is what the Provost wrote to the faculty on 3 November:
"Due to the cancellations of classes for Hurricanes Rita and Wilma,
the Provost and the Steering Committee of the Faculty Senate have
approved the following modifications to the Fall 2005 Academic Calendar
after consultation with representatives of the Student Government
Association:
Instead of having classes end on Thursday, December 8th, classes will
now extend through Saturday, December 17th. Graduation Ceremonies will
be on December 19th and 20th as previously scheduled. The deadline for
faculty to submit grades has been extended to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday,
December 22nd.
This modification rescinds both the planned "study days" (December 9
and 10), and the week that was to be devoted only to final examinations
(December 12-17).
There will be no dedicated exam week this semester, and faculty members
are encouraged to conduct their examinations in the manner generally
utilized during the summer semesters--exams are generally given on the
last day of class (in this case during the week of December 12).
Since the week of December 12 is now an instructional week, no final
examinations should be given during the week of December 5. Faculty
are asked to revise and publish their updated syllabi and inform
their students of these changes at their next class meeting.
In constructing examinations for this semester, faculty members are
asked to recognize that there will not be a long examination period
as is usually the case for Fall semesters, and that they should be
sensitive to the fact that many of their students are likely to have
multiple exams on the same day as there will likely be little
possibility of staggering students' exams in the manner allowed by
a designated week devoted to exams."
I have, therefore, posted a "Rosenberg Mod" to the Wilma Update for the
itinerary of each class. And finally, the Final Exam Schedule is online,
and final, finally. Onward.

Folks,
Sorry about the delay and not replying to those of you who have e-mailed,
but at the time I left home this morning, the power was still out.
Consequently, I have not had internet access until I arrived on campus
today. I will provide an update to both classes itineraries later.
At this time here are three items of interest:
(a) The drop date has been extended to 10 November 2005.
Previously it was 03 November 2005.
(b) Test 2 for Calculus II will occur on Wednesday, 02 November
2005, not on Halloween as previously advertised. It will
cover the same material: through Section 7.6.
(c) Test 2 for Calculus I will occur on Thursday, 03 November
2005, and will cover the same material as indicated on the
Rita Update: through Section 4.1.
Onward. d.l.r.

Folks,
As you know, the university is closed Monday. For Calculus II, we are
slightly ahead of schedule and you should expect Test 2 to occur on
Monday, 31 Oct 2005 as per the Calculus II Itinerary, Autumn, 2005 [Rita
Update]. The Calculus I Test 2 situation is slightly less certain at this
time. If we have class on Tuesday, you should expect the test to occur on
Thursday in accordance with the Calculus I Itinerary, Autumn, 2005 [Rita
Update], although it may occur in a different class. If the powers that
be determine that we shall not have class Tuesday or that we will have a
different classroom on Thursday, I will decide how we shall proceed and
inform you promptly on this page. Stay safe. d.l.r.
7. Wed Oct 19 17:54:54 EDT 2005
Folks,
Despite Hurricane Wilma, the Calculus II class on Wednesday will occur
as scheduled. On the other hand due to the expected arrival of
evacuees from the Keys, the Calculus I class on Thursday has
been moved to a new classroom, CP101, Chemistry and Physics 101. See you
there. After that, we shall see. Stay safe. As long as you have power,
check periodically at http://www.fiu911.org/. Onward??? d.l.r.

5. Tue Sep 20 19:20:00 EDT 2005
Calculus II Folks,
Classes begin again on Wednesday. For Wednesday we will meet in
PCA 165. This is room 165 in the Architecture building. [See Message 2
below.] The URL: http://www.fiu911.org/. I expect that we will be back
in PC211 on Monday if the creek don't rise. You will also want to print
the new Itinerary since I am reducing the number of tests to attempt to
complete the syllabus. d.l.r.
Calculus I Folks,
I do not know yet where we will meet on Thursday. Check here and
http://www.fiu911.org/ Wednesday night. I expect that we will be back
in PC211 on Tuesday for Test 1 if the creek don't rise. You will also
want to print the new Itinerary since I am reducing the number of tests to
attempt to complete the syllabus. d.l.r.
4. Mon Sep 19 13:40:00 EDT 2005
Calculus I and II Folks,
Classes are cancelled today and tomorrow due to Rita. Perhaps we shall
start back on Wednesday, 21 Sep 2005. Test I is delayed. Read Message 3
below for details. Check

for updates regarding university operations if you have power. Stay safe

3. Mon Sep 19 11:43:00 EDT 2005
Calculus I and II Folks, at this time, due to the chaos from Rita, Test 1
will be delayed exactly one week, and there will be no additional material
on the test. I will soon provide both classes with new itineraries and
provide a required alteration to the number of tests to be given this
term. Apologies ... . d.l.r.
2. Mon Sep 19 09:41:00 EDT 2005
Calculus II Folks, the class for tonight has been relocated to PCA 165
The official notice has an error in that it indicates that the class is
MAC2311. The class is incorrect, but the section is correct. Pay
attention to the official notices for the rest of the week.
It appears that the class listed in the following item
> 19-Sept MAC 2311 U08 7:50PM-9:30PM PC211 PCA 165
for PC211 is in error. The correct listing should be
> 19-Sept MAC 2312 U08 7:50PM-9:30PM PC211 PCA 165

Note!
What's PCA?? Location of PCA building: The PCA building is the new
Architecture building located on the North side of campus. It's the
building immediately to the left after entering ...
Calculus I Folks, you, too, will probably be relocated on Tuesday. Pay
attention to the notices. The test has not yet been re-scheduled.

Folks, the first thing you need to do is to go to your class's page and
click on the Essential Handouts link. Then all the items on that
page need to be printed or down-loaded for convenient viewing. Read each
carefully. Then go to the FAQ page as questions arise. This
should take care of many of the routine queries that arise at the
beginning of the term. Explore the site further to your heart's
content. If you have additional questions, you may ask in person or via
e-mail but you must provide an appropriate subject line and "sign" your
post so that I can identify you, if you actually expect to get a
reply. Incidentally, if you have registered for one of my courses and
have not satisfied the pre-requisites, do yourself a favor by dropping the
current course and adding one for which you have the knowledge to proceed
with some hope of success. I do not grade on a curve. I do not allow
the use of calculators in Calculus I and Calculus II at exam time. I
have a very clear understanding of what you should master by the end of
the course to keep your head above C - level. Kindly do not keep a
qualified student out by registering for a Mathematics course that you do
not have the preparation to pursue with a reasonable probability of
success.
Onward, into magic??
