Folks,

Course grades are now posted. Have a good, safe holiday break, and study
harder --- more frequently --- next term.

Folks,

The final exam schedule is now in its final form and on the web. Merely
back up a notch and click on Final Exam Information to locate the day,
date, time, and room for your final exam. Please make sure that you bring
a photo id (if not a photo ego). I recognize most of you who have been
attending regularly, but I will not be shy about asking for an ID from
those I don't recognize.

Your holiday gift is the following: Your course grade will be assigned
based on the maximum of the Final Exam Score, as a percentage based on 200
points, and your Final Total, as a percentage based on 500 points
possible. This means that you will get at least the grade by
contract. Good luck. Better, good skill. Do not study the night before
to the point where you incure a case of FBS at test time.

DE Folks,

Please note that, as pointed out in class, the date for Test 2 was
incorrect, since it previously was listed as 29 Oct, a Sunday. Please
correct that date to be 26 Oct, which, no surprise, turns out to be a
Thursday. Note that the current Itinerary has the corrected date. If any
of you see further errors, please let me know. d.l.r.

Folks,

At this time things appear to be back to normal. Itineraries have
been up-dated and all three classes should be in PC 211 again. Onward??

Folks,

As you should know by now, the university will be closed on Tuesday, 29
August 2006 and Wednesday, 30 August 2006. When you have power, check
your FIU e-mail and the FIU web site. For at least a few days after the
university re-opens, you should expect our classroom to be other than
PC 211. Check to see what it is daily. You may also call 305-348-help,
although the help line is all too often not so helpful. Read/Print copies
of your Syllabi/Game Rules, Homework Problems, and Initial Itineraries,
although I shall provide up-dated Itineraries once the water has drained
off. Be forewarned, at this time, depending on the severity of the mess,
Calculus I and DE will lose the first review day, and Calculus II will
omit Section 7.7 on Work.

Reminder: Calculus II Monday is in GL 165. This is on the first floor of
the Green Library.

Onward? d.l.r.

Calculus II Folks,

Be sure to read message #1 below. Due to Ernesto's mischief, the first
class, on Monday, 28 August 2006, 1950 - 2130, will be in GL165 instead
of our normal classroom, PC211. Check the FIU web site for updates
throughout hurricane season.

Calculus I and DE Folks,

Read massage #1 below and check the FIU web site before coming to class on
Tuesday. As usual for hurricane season, you should be aware that since
the second floor of PC is used for a shelter, we may get moved about a
bit. Check the FIU web site if you have power. Onward??

Folks, the first thing you need to do is to go to your class's page and
click on the Essential Handouts link. Then all the items on that
page need to be printed or down-loaded for convenient viewing. Read each
carefully. Then go to the FAQ page as questions arise. This
should take care of many of the routine queries that arise at the
beginning of the term. Explore the site further to your heart's
content. If you have additional questions, you may ask in person or via
e-mail but you must provide an appropriate subject line and "sign" your
post so that I can identify you, if you actually expect to get a
reply. Incidentally, if you have registered for one of my courses and
have not satisfied the pre-requisites or have been out of school so long
that you have forgotten them, do yourself a favor by dropping the
current course and adding one for which you have the knowledge to proceed
with some hope of success. I do not grade on a curve. I do not allow
the use of calculators in Calculus I, Calculus II, or Differential
Equations at exam time. Kindly do not keep a qualified student out
by registering for a Mathematics course that you do not have the
preparation to pursue with a reasonable probability of success.

Onward, into magic??
