Description: An introduction to basic concepts, computations and applications in Calculus. The course deals with techniques and applications of the derivative and an introduction to the integral.
Prerequisite: Trigonometry or MAC 2147: Precalculus

Material to be covered: Chapters (sections) 0 (1--5), 1 (1--6), 2 (1--6), 3 (1--6), 4 (1--5, 8), 5 (2,3), 10 (1).

Tests and quizzes:

  • There will be two midterms, worth 100 points each, four (4) quizzes worth 20 points each and a comprehensive final examination worth 120 points. The dates for the midterms are 10/07 and 11/18. For the quizzes, the dates are 9/9, 9/23; 10/21, 11/04;
  • The date for the final examination is Friday, December 9, 2011. PC431: 7:30AM-9:30AM.
  • There are no make-up midterms or quizzes. With a valid, verifiable reason for missing a midterm, a waiver may be granted for the missed test. The final exam cannot be waived. An incomplete grade may be assigned upon presentation of a valid, verifiable reason for missing the scheduled test. The make-up final examination should be taken during the next week of finals at the end of the following semester. Spring 2012 in this case.

    • Grades: Grades will be assigned on the basis of 400 points.
