Positions

Our lab carries out research on nano and molecular electronics, nanobiotechnology and single molecule biophysics. The group members will get extensive training in building and developing sophisticated experiment instruments and methods, such as SPM (SICM, STM and AFM), tip enhanced Raman spectroscopy, and nanojunction and nanopore systems; the student will also be trained to utilize various top-down and bottom-up micro/nano fabrication techniques to fabricate novel nanodevice (user facilities at FIU AMERI will be used).

Postdoc position (no opening now)

A postdoctoral associate position is available in Dr. He's laboratory in Department of Physics, and Biomolecular Science Institute, at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami. FIU is a fast-growing R1 public research university, with 2016’s research expenditures over $171 M. He’s lab is developing multifunctional single molecule and single cell biophysical tools and methods to study cell biology. We are seeking a motivated and creative applicant to join a new project focusing on understanding the role of mechanical and electrical cues in cardiac tissue engineering using cutting-edge techniques. A PhD in (bio)physics, (bio)chemistry, cell biology or related science is required. The ideal candidate should have strong laboratory and analytical skills, with background in one or more of the following fields: scanning probe microscope, patch clamp techniques, advanced fluorescence microscope techniques, SERS, novel single molecule and single cell biophysics techniques, optogenetics, bioelectricity, stem cell and cardiac muscle cells/tissue.

Successful applicants will be a member of a high-quality research team with a collaborative research environment in a NSF sponsored ERC center (http://sites.bu.edu/cell-met/). FIU also provides strong support and career trainings for postdoctoral researchers.

To apply, applicants should email a cover letter explaining relevant work experience and interests, a CV, and the contact information of three references to Professor Jin He:jinhe@fiu.edu. The position is expected to begin January 1, 2018 or earlier. For more information, please visit:http://faculty.fiu.edu/~jinhe/

Visiting professor position

You are welcome to contact me if you have interest to join my lab as a visiting professor with your own support.

Procedure to Apply: Please send your CV, and a cover letter of your research experiences and interest, to my email address.

Graduate position

Motivated students are highly encouraged to apply. Please visit Physics department for the application procedure. The departemnt normally will support the incoming students with TA for the first year. I will support RA from time to time.

Undergraduate reserach opportunities

I am seeking enthusiastic undergraduates in STEM majors (not limited to Physics major) who are interested in Nano-bio reserach  and single molecule cellular biophysics. If you are motivated to participate in our highly interdisciplinary and exciting research front, please contact me.

For undergradute, you can get trained in micro-fabrication, computer program and may work on exciting new nano and bio stuff. The projects could also be in circuit design, software development for data acquisition/analysis, developing microfluidics, etc. Some of our research can be part of your undergraduate projects. You also have chances to present your research findings in local, regonal and national scientific conferences

We are associated with NSF founded research centers Cell-met and STROBE. We expect to have frequent openinings for NSF supported Research Experience for Undergradautes (REU) positions. To apply, please send me a CV (with GPA score) and a description of your research interest and career plan. You should have finished at least 12 credits of science and engineering courses.

I am also a FIU MBRS RISE Program mentor. You may also consider to apply for a MARC U*STAR program fellowship for biomeidcal research.

You are also encouraged to apply McNair fellowship .

High school students and science teachers

We will accept one to two high school students for summer research recommended by their science teachers. We will also host the summer reserch interns (SRI) organized by MBRS.

For high school science teacher, please check the FIU Research Experience for Teachers program link

About FIU: With a student body of nearly 57,000, FIU is the 4th largest universities in the nation. FIU is a R1 public research University (link) and emphasizes research as a major component of its mission. The university research expenditures have grown to $196 million in fiscal year 2017-2018. FIU is a fast rising young public research University. The goal for the next five years is to become a top 50 public University.

About Miami: Since its inception in 1896, Miami has welcomed and nurtured millions of families and professionals. Supported by a heritage of optimism, Miami has succeeded in becoming a major metropolitan destination in less than a century's time. The city's nickname, The Magic City, plays tribute to this unprecedented growth, becoming a city seemingly overnight, without first growing into a town. Add to this its newest achievements, being recognized as "The Gateway to the Americas" and "The American Riviera". Miami is home to over five million people and a culturally diverse and dynamic workforce. The Miami of the 21st Century is an exciting, dynamic, global marketplace and a blueprint for trade, travel, culture and communications.
