I am interested in understanding dynamics and predictability of the climate system on interannual to decadal timescales. Specific research topics include: (1) the role of the tropical diabatic heating associated with the interannual variability in modulating the atmospheric circulation and (2) how the decadal variablity over the Pacific leads to variations in North American hydroclimate.
