Dr. Nelson

I earned my B.S. in Psychology and Communication Disorders from Baldwin-Wallace College (now Baldwin Wallace University) and my M.S./Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Behavior from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. From 2010-2012, I was a NIH/NICHD postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Developmental Science. I joined the FIU Department of Psychology as an Assistant Professor in 2012, and established the HANDS Lab. I was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2019. I am affiliated with the Developmental Science and Cognitive Neuroscience doctoral programs, and I train graduate, undergraduate, and high school students in the collection and analysis of reaching, grasping, and manipulation in infants, children, and nonhuman primates. My work has been funded by extramural and intramural grants. I was recognized by the FIU College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE) for Teaching in 2016, and for Research in 2019.
