Prem Chapagain is a Professor of Physics at Florida International University and Associate Director of the Biomolecular Sciences Institute. His research combines physics-based molecular simulation, structural biology, and artificial intelligence to understand how biomolecules move, interact, and function. His group applies these computational and machine-learning approaches to problems in biology and drug discovery with direct relevance to human health, from viral assembly and antibiotic resistance to RNA-targeted therapeutics. He is particularly interested in harnessing emerging AI technologies to accelerate how we understand and design biological systems.

He has been recognized by a number of teaching and research awards, including the 2022 Faculty Senate Award for Faculty Excellence in Research and the 2019 Faculty Senate Award for Faculty Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Chapagain has a highly successful record of teaching and mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students.
