Drops and Incompletes

The college imposes strict rules concerning the offering of incomplete. I adhere to these rules quite exclusively. The rules are as follows: To qualify for an incomplete a student must: 1) have a passing grade in the course at the time the request is made, 2) have completed a majority of the course material, and 3) be unable to complete the course for reasons beyond the students control. These rules makes it very difficult for student with an average below a C to qualify even if there are very good and justified reasons for requesting the incomplete. If you are presented with a situation where you need an incomplete and do not meet the criteria above you could request to withdraw from all your classes for the semester. Information for what is available to you can be found in the FIU Student Catalog.

The rules for dropping a course after the late drop date (Indicated in schedule) are even stricter than those for obtaining an incomplete. In most situations it is pretty near impossible to drop a course with a DR after the late drop date. If you need to drop and do not do it before the late drop date you will likely have to take whatever grade you have for the course. Other options may be available but you will need to consult with the registrars office.
