Vase from the Odeon Hill, Carthage, circa 1890
Vase from the Odeon Hill, Carthage, circa 1890

"TUNES in Africa" map by Daniel Meisner (1626-1627). The latin proverb reads "Ne Hercules quidem adversus duos" (Not even Hercules fights against two). The walled-garden behind the quarreling party is Bustan Ras Tabia, and to the left of it (on the northside) is the lush Bustan Abu Fahr site of the modern Cite des Sciences a Tunis. It is vividly desribed by Ibn Khaldun [1332-1406], al-Qalqashandi [1355-1418] and le Chevalier d'Arvieux [1635-1702] in reference to Carthage and the aqueduct of Zaghouan.
