Summer A 2020 - MAC1105

Class' Notes (Click here for access)

Welcome!!
You can find the syllabus on Canvas. You will use Canvas and MyLabsPlus on almost daily basis. Canvas contains your pre-class assignments (due before each class, yes even before our first class) and short reviews of prerequisites. The second system is MyLabsPlus, you will complete your homework here and you can also see the textbook here.
You can find the class schedule (with all the due dates) on the syllabus. Keep track of the due dates! It is your responsibility to submit all the assignments on time (it's my responsibility to grade them in timely matter). No extensions will be given. Send me an email if you have any question but make sure to start the email with your name, class and the class' section.

Advice from former students:

Practice until you master the lessons. Don’t be lazy or settle for average scores. Listen to the teacher’s advice instead of criticizing the teacher and saying he doesn’t teach well.

Be mentally prepared for all the work you’re going to do on your own. A lot of the stuff being tested has little details that if you dont remember can mess up your answer. Pay close attention during the homework to what is being asked and how the answer is meant to be written because one space between a number and symbol can mark a correct answer wrong. Do your homework as close to when the test date is without turning it in late since you learn from the homework. Accept and do every extra credit, go to math gym as much as possible because your grade will quickly fall and math gym will quickly rescue it in the end w/ the extra credit.

Take the class time seriously. While most people left after the Learning Catalytics, I stayed and did the worksheets and got extra help on the topics I struggled with. This got me a step ahead on my homework and the math gym packets. Also, don’t be afraid to ask the Math LA’s for help on topics you don’t understand. They’re there to help you, so don’t be embarrassed to ask for help. For further help, I watched Khan Academy videos. The videos are great because you can pause the videos and learn things at your own pace. Khan Academy even has extra practice problems, so if you’re still struggling on a topic after the video, you can do extra pratice. I would also pause the videos for example problems and try to solve the problems on my own. After I completed a problem, I’d resume the video and if I did a problem incorrectly I’d take notes on my paper next to the steps I took on the problem.

Always do everything a day early and always try again. Never give up if you don’t understand something, always keep trying.

To get an A in this class you really do need to show up to class and do all your work. It’s really not that much if you do a little here and there. Math lab definitely helped me get an A and going there to do your work and ask questions will be beneficial to you.

Utilize the power points on Canvas; take initiative for your learning!
Sharon
Make sure to do every assignment, also try to understand every concept and keep working on the assignments that you don’t get. Also try to get a 100% in every mymathplus homework.
Keisha D.
Don’t be lazy. Master all your lessons. Listen to your professor’s advice and ask for help
J
Do all of the assignments, and when there are opportunities to get 100%, such as on the homework, take it. This will allow you to make sure you fully understand the questions, and if you don’t ask the LAs for help.
Carla
Set up your math gym class and set a schedule to complete all 3 lab hours. Don’t forget to stay on top of pre class assignments
