Professional Leadership & Advocacy

Leadership is a part of my character. As a leader, I am willing to take action and implement change and improvement in the counseling profession. I have been serving as a Region Two Representative for FCA for a one-year term.

Was involved in a leadership role with the Florida Counseling Association (FCA) as Secretary of the Florida Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (FACES), working on FACES Newsletters and Meeting Minutes.

Enjoyed FCA Leadership Development Institute in Tampa, Florida, 2016

Another Leadership Role I am involved in is the Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) Beta Chapter Public Relations Committee Co-chair. In Spring 2017 we received an award for our CSI Beta Chapter Newsletter!

I am also working on improving my leadership skills through professional development opportunities, including attending the FCA Leadership Development Institute (LDI) in 2015 and 2016.

My GALLUP STRENGTHS 2.0 are:

In Summer 2016 I received a financial award from the Southern region of the American Counseling Association (ACA)   to attend the American Counseling Association Leadership Development Institute in Washington DC https://www.counseling.org/institute

While working in the U.S., I have learned how advocating for the profession increases the likelihood that not only counselor professionals will benefit from my efforts, but also clients’ safety will be preserved. Currently, I am working on a project related to the licensure standards in Florida by developing a rationale to add personal counseling as a requirement for licensure in the mental health profession.

Being around superb professionals, passionate leaders, advocating for the counseling profession had provided me with a plethora of insights in regards to my future development as a leader.

We have started a research pertaining to the significance of personal counseling in the development of a counselor. Our hope is that one day a certain amount of hours of the personal counseling will become a requirement for obtaining a licensure in the mental health counseling in the state of Florida.

INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP

Currently I am working with counselors in Russia on establishing professional standards, related to ethics and law. I learned how important it is to have a team of professionals who are as passionate as you. With the help of my colleagues we are running a group and a page on ethics for professional counselors on Facebook, started a YouTube channel, made a video-flashmob, where counselors were talking about ethical behavior, this video received 30000 views and we plan to continue establishing high professional standards and informing public about ethical conduct of counselors. In February, 2016 I started to teach a class on Ethics in Counseling, and in Spring, 2017 we hosted the 1st in the history of the country Conference on Ethics in Counseling. Cultural values influence ethical standards; and therefore, international collaboration is important within the counseling profession.
