IG Model Body: Body Dysmorphia + Expectation Black America Summit Panel
August 20, 2021Hypersexualization of the Black female body is deeply ingrained in American society. With the rise of the perfect Instagram body or the “IG Body,” more women and girls feel pressure to undergo dangerous surgeries to achieve the fantastical body. I will be discussing the research examing Black womanhood as it relates to body dysmorphia and social media expectations. -

Division 5 draws together specialists in the areas of quantitative and qualitative methods across all areas of research and clinical training in psychology. -
UREM Undergraduate Internships in Nuclear Physics
August 10, 2021 to June 30, 2023This grant will provide selected students with a year long, paid individualized mentoring experience with Nuclear Physics faculty. I will be the Qualitative Methodologist on this grant; my evaluation will serve to not only strengthen this prototype program, but also develop best-practice principles for other similar programs that will be disseminated through publications and presentations. -
INTRODUCTION TO GLOBAL HEALTH FOCUSED QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
July 21- 23, 2021This intensive online workshop provides 2021 NIH Fogarty Center Global Health Fellows with an overview of approaches to analyzing qualitative data, an understanding of the core principles of analysis and the opportunity to develop key skills. -
Black Women’s Body Image: Implications for Identity Formation and Well-Being
Submission Deadline June 15, 2021Along with Dr. Danielle Dickens of Spelman College, I am Co- Editor of the The Journal of Black Psychology's special issue highlighting current Black women’s body image research in the field of psychology. The purpose of this special issue is to advance scholarship on Black women’s body image, identity formation, and psychological well-being. -
Miami Studies Fellowship
May 2021 through May 2022As part of a grant generously funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to build a robust Miami Studies Program at Florida International University's Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab (WPHL), eight full-time FIU faculty were selected for the first cohort of Miami Studies Fellows. This collective of interdisciplinary scholars from across the university will contribute to the development of curriculum in that integrates local and community studies into the research and teaching foci.
