The Dehumanization of Black Women's Bodies across Time and Contexts: Implications for Research & Clinical Practices
April 2, 2022The 12th Annual African Counseling Psychology Conference at Bowie State University theme was “Sexual Victimization and the Hypersexualization of Black Bodies". My keynote address, titled “ The Dehumanization of Black Women’s Bodies” presented the way in which socio-historical experiences have shaped the field of psychology's current approaches to examining Black women’s sexual health. -
Publishing 101: Negotiating the Politics of Publishing Processes
March 14, 2022Graduate students are often taught the mechanics of the manuscript writing process, but less attention is paid to sharg the nuanced cultural meanings and values that occur. This talk sought to ensure attendees gained a better understanding of the value of different types of publishing formats, importance of authorship order, and changing norms in the academic writing culture. -

Revisiting/ Revising Latina Sexual Script Frameworks
October 4, 2021Moving beyond the traditional marianismo frameworks, this presentation uses an intersectional approach to explore factors shaping diverse Latina sexual scripting frameworks. Drawing upon the emperical research, this talk addresses the influence of stereotypes on sexual health research, and highlights the ways in which recent work has found the ways in which regional, generational, nationality, familial, and economic inform distinct behavioral and belief frameworks. -
IG Model Body: Body Dysmorphia + Expectation Black America Summit Panel
August 20, 2021Hypersexualization of the Black female body is deeply ingrained in American society. With the rise of the perfect Instagram body or the “IG Body,” more women and girls feel pressure to undergo dangerous surgeries to achieve the fantastical body. I will be discussing the research examing Black womanhood as it relates to body dysmorphia and social media expectations. -

August 12, 2021So honored to receive this award from Division 5: Quantitative & Qualitative Methods; it recognizes demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring within the field of qualitative inquiry. Division 5 draws together specialists in the areas of quantitative and qualitative methods across all areas of research and clinical training in psychology. -
UREM Undergraduate Internships in Nuclear Physics
August 10, 2021 to June 30, 2023This grant will provide selected students with a year long, paid individualized mentoring experience with Nuclear Physics faculty. I will be the Qualitative Methodologist on this grant; my evaluation will serve to not only strengthen this prototype program, but also develop best-practice principles for other similar programs that will be disseminated through publications and presentations.
