Hudson's Online Help - MAA 3200- Fall 2013: Also check out the Exam Page, which has old exams and (eventually) keys to your exams, and True-False practice. I'll add more links to this page during the semester if people express interest. Many of these web pages were written for previous classes using Velleman's textbook, but I am leaving them up until I hear whether they are still useful. Comment and requests are welcome!

  1. Logic and Proofs for beginners; explanation and online drills, in three parts.

  2. Quantifiers; TF practice with the notation in Velleman, Ch 2.

  3. A Drill on Proof Strategies - based on Velleman, page 376 (and Ch 3).

  4. Set Theorems; Just a list of simple statements about sets. Practice proving these.

  5. Proofs about Relations , detailed answers to 2 exercises from Velleman, Ch 4 [1st Edn].

  6. Strong Induction [and other strong things].

  7.  HW2 key [2010]. The links below were mainly for 2003 and the 1st edn of the text.

  8.  HW1, HW2, HW3, HW4, HW5, HW6, HW7, HW8 - Answers to selected problems [2003].

  9. There are links to notes on N, Z, Q and R [and to related exercises] on the HW page.

How to use the Web Site: Most students get used to it pretty fast. You should read the Policy page at the beginning of the term, print out and read the Syllabus, and scan the rest (exam page, project page, HW page, etc). You can print the HW page, also known as the Schedule page, if you want, but it is subject to change. During the term you will mainly use the Exam page and the HW page. That is where I will post any news about the course, such as a change in the HW lists, etc. Also, I've made a list of common abbreviations; there's a link to that on my home page.

Remember - you will learn the most from doing homework exercises, even if they seem hard at first. Nothing on this page, or the exam page, should be considered a substitute for that work.
