Research is my passion. Formulating hypotheses and searching for the answers adds meaning to my life. My research focuses on examining emotions.
While in Russia, before beginning the doctoral program, I wrote an article titled “The problem of emotions in western social psychology” (Prikhidko, 2009). Since then, I have received grants and published papers related to emotional socialization, emotional research in social psychology, and intergroup emotions. Currently, my research focuses on emotion regulation and its application to training counselors, and providing counseling to clients. I am leading various research projects in this area.
1) Image of Motherhood and Emotion Regulation Among Mothers of Toddlers. IRB # 2015-U-0284.
2) Emotion Regulation Among Novice Counselors. IRB # 2015-U-1205.
3) Caregivers Balancing Responsibilities. IRB # 2015-U-1170.
I am also working on a research project that focuses on the domestic violence in Russia and ways marriage and family counselors can assist victims and survivors in overcoming traumatic experiences. An outcome of this project will be a Chapter in a book on Intercultural Perspectives in Family Counseling edited by Dr. Brian Canfield.
Furthermore, I am working as a Research Assistant at the Clinical Institute of Translational Science (CTSI) at the University of Florida. Through this position, I am working on research projects related that include the (a) efficacy of the qualitative formative evaluation, and (b) effects of a mentor academy and mentee-mentor relationships.
In the future, I would like to also focus my scholarship on developing translational counseling research, bridging theory and practice in a systemic fashion. Additionally, I want to establish collaborations with neuroscientists and neurophysiologists to investigate the psychological treatment process in a holistic manner.
